3 weeks long ski training in Austria

Ok, it's been a long while I post a word here. It's because I've been almost 3 weeks in Austria for a ski training. I stayed at farm called Stefflhof in Mittersill. I want to write more about this place in next post, but for now, I will just say that it's a wonderful place, family-driven, family atmosphere, ecological farm and for a fantastic price. Usually one night costs 18 Euros and that is including breakfast.

I like Mittersill, because it's a small town, but lying right in the center of 4 main ski areas and if you buy Salzburg super ski card, you can go to more then 25 big, medium and small ski regions in Salzburg region. This is what I did and I love this option.

The best ski region I really love is Kitzbuhel. And first lift is just about 5 minutes ride by car from the place I stay. The best thing about Kitzbuhel is that you can travel by ski, they call it Ski-safari, all slopes and lifts are interconnected and in one day you visit towns like Kitzbuhel, Mittersill, Reith, Schirast all by ski. In car these distances are in 10s of kilometers.

Next choice for me this time was Zillertal arena. It's also very nice place, where you can travel with your skis on, but I miss a little the spirit and atmosphere of that in Kitzbuhel. But it's just my personal view. The slopes are good, well groomed and this ski region is in average 400 meters higher than Kitzbuhel. And for me the best thing is public race-slope for training. It's a slalom track and I trained a lot, for 4 or 5 days.

I also visited Kaprun - Kitzsteinhorn. This is a great glacier, more than 3000 meters high above sea level. Best time for Kaprun is in May or early September, then there is enough snow for starting or ending skiing season. But because in January 2007 even big ski areas had big troubles with high temperatures (mostly above 0C), I had to go here too.

Leogang and Saalfelden is about 45 minutes far away, it offers some slopes for race training too, but in time of my Austria training, there wasn't enough snow for any skiing at all. I tried it, but there was too much grass looking at me through the snow on the slope ;-)

Ok, more news and posts will come pretty soon, as I catch up my work at my job, so stay tuned. I also have some pictures ;-)

Ski carreer begins :-)

Hello everyone !

This is my first English post about my skiing carreer. Well, firstly, I would like to say that I begin racing little late because I'm 24. When I see those 6 year old kids on the slope, racing like Bode Miller, I feel like it's already too late for me. But I think it's not. Because if I don't try it now, then when ? Probably never.

I want to cover here all the information needed for ski racing and about my experiences. I've found out that there is a lot information missing and I have to spend hours digging in Google and sometimes I find nothing I want. I would never imagine how difficult it is, for example, to find and buy ski-race helmet or slalom shinguards. That's what I want to write about here.
